New Report: 58% of Students Value a Virtual Tour On A College Website

Last week Noel-Levitz released their 2010 edition on the E-Expectations Report about what college-bound students are looking for in terms of online engagement during the admissions process.  To create their report they surveyed more than 1,000 high school students about their online behavior and expectations.  I’m not going to rehash the complete report here, but if you are looking for that, Karlyn over at .eduGuru wrote a nice summary or simply go download the report for yourself.  What I would like to do is present a few very interesting data points and discuss exactly how we address those points.

Introducing eduRank – Free .edu Website Traffic and Authority Ranking Tool

edurank logo Introducing eduRank Free .edu Website Traffic and Authority Ranking ToolAfter months (okay, years) of development and going back and forth many times we have finally launched eduRank!  eduRank is a traffic ranking service for .edu domains.  Essentially what we have been able to do is to take a list of over 1,500 college and university websites, and by collecting multiple data points and running these through our own algorithm, we have been able to rank the traffic and authority of these websites.  Because we take multiple data points we feel our ranking is more exact than any of the individual rankings on their own.

Now You Can Embed Your Interactive Campus Map in Facebook!

So this post is more of a transparent pat on our own backs at nuCloud, but we have successfully taken our interactive mapping software and are able to embed it on a Facebook Page!  We are excited because we feel this is a big deal for colleges and universities.  As recent data has shown 99% of 18-24 year olds are on social networks.  As you all know, for most institutes of higher education this is the target audience for at least undergraduates.  Also with Facebook now flaunting over 350 million active users it’s an obvious location in which to place one of your strongest recruiting tools.

Interactive Map of Higher Education Spending Cuts

Earlier this week the Chronicle of Higher Education gave us an interesting interactive map on Higher Education Spending Cuts by States.  The data from this map is provided by new data from the University of Washington.  Most states have significantly cut spending and that is quite apparent on the map.  I bring up this important issue for two very significant reasons.  First, it is a good example of an interactive map with relevant data for our industry and second, with spending cuts we have to be much smarter about how we spend our money.
