Interactive Map for HighEdWeb Arkansas 2011 Conference #hewebar

Coming up later this week is the 2011 regional HighEdWeb conference in Little Rock, AR. nuCloud has signed up as a sponsor for this event, but we also worked with one of the event organizers and also director of communications at the local UALR Bowen School of Law, Tonya Smith Oaks, to create an interactive map of the city. Included in the map are pictures and videos of numerous venues which those attending the conference will visit along with other must-see places in the southern city of Little Rock. You can see our map embedded on their website.

Also at the conference we will have two members of our executive team who were selected to present. Michael Fienen will be discussing how to better act upon your analytics and Nick Catto will be talking about how to utilize an interactive map for recruitment.

Be sure to check out the Little Rock map and solicit Michael and Nick for a cloud stress ball.

If you are curious it took us about a day to surf the web for all the images and text to put onto the 17 stop map. The most time consuming part is finding all the right pictures and text to use; otherwise our system makes it incredibly easy to upload everything into the backend and place it where you want.

Executives Presenting Twice at #OmniUpdate11 Tomorrow

This week two of our executive team members are in sunny Los Angles at our partner OmniUpdate’s user conference 2011. OmniUpdate is the leader in the Content Management System (CMS) space in higher education and we are honored to be presenting at their conference.

The two presentations that Michael Fienen and Kyle James will be presenting are a group discussion on Social Media and your Campus – What is (or Isn’t) Working and a marketing presentation on The Interactive Campus Map: An Essential Online Recruiting Tool.

The discussion on social media and your campus is a facilitated open forum where attendees can ask questions and talk about what is or isn’t working in their social media initiatives on campus. This roundtable discussion is also being joined by Mark Greenfield who is a well-known leader and presenter in higher education. For a preview of the event Mark, Michael and Kyle stopped by the HigherEdLive studio last night and filmed an episode that dug into many of the topics that will be fleshed out more deeply tomorrow.

The interactive campus map presentation is something that is familiar to all our customers and anyone else who has looked into our services. We firmly believe that an interactive campus map is an essential online recruiting tool for every college or university. Recent data suggests that 84% of prospective students found a campus visit as a credible source in the college decision process. Another study showed that 77% of prospective students found a campus visit request form on a website to have a lot of value. This data shows the importance of your campus to a student’s final decision making process. Having an interactive campus map opens up the top of your recruitment funnel and is an essential tool for online recruitment. This presentation will dive deeply into the stats, ROI and the story of why this is an essential online recruitment tool. It could easily be argued that it is the most important feature on a college website.

Sometimes it is ok to brag about one’s accomplishments. After many late nights spent in front of a computer monitor, our CTO Michael Fienen recently completed his first book. Being one of the leading experts on dotCMS, it only made sense for him to write the first authoritative text on the content management system. dotCMS From the Ground Up is 226 pages of fundamental awesomeness for any webmaster that uses this CMS.

A First Peek: V2 Map Platform

As some of you know we are quickly approaching the release of nuCloud’s completely rewritten Interactive Campus Map platform. We are expecting to launch in Q1 2011 and optimistically looking at a late January release.

Some of the exciting things that you can expect in this release include:

Multiple map layers
Support for YouTube, Vimeo and Schooltube Video
Customizable map dimensions

We have been listening to our customers and are excited to be including some of these features specifically requested by them. The new platform is the first project that nuCloud will complete as part of our new partnership with AllofE.

nuCloud Partners with OmniUpdate

If you follow didn’t hear the big announcement yesterday let me share it with you. nuCloud has partnered with OmniUpdate to deliver our interactive campus mapping solution to OmniUpdate customers. This doesn’t mean that you have to be an OmniUpdate customer to become a nuCloud customer. What it does mean is that if you are an OmniUpdate customer you will be able to access our backend content management system from inside of their system.

We are definitely excited about this long in the works partnership and are excited about teaming up with such a respected vendor in the higher education space.
